Albanian Police, national police and law enforcement agency of Albania
The Albanian Police is the main law enforcement agency in Albania operating under the Ministry of Interior. It is organized into several divisions including Order Police, Road Police, Border Police, Coast Guard, Military Police, and specialized units like RENEA for critical situations.
The Albanian Police was established in 1913 by Ismail Qemali, the country's first prime minister. After communist rule ended in 1991, the police system underwent major reforms introducing new laws, organizations, and modern methods to reshape law enforcement.
Officers are visible throughout towns and cities on foot patrols and vehicle patrols at busy intersections and streets. In emergencies, you can call 129 or 112 to reach authorities quickly and get assistance when needed.
Since 2022 the police have managed over 7 million travelers annually at Tirana International Airport, showing how the force operates in modern tourist contexts. This work at border entry points has become an important part of their visible presence.
