Tumo Center for Creative Technologies, Education Center in Armenia
Tumo Center for Creative Technologies is a school in Yerevan that offers free education in technology and design to young people aged 12 to 18. The center features modern facilities including sound studios, cinemas, and workshops where students work on projects in animation, game development, video production, and other creative fields.
The center was founded in 2011 by Sam and Sylva Simonian to provide young Armenians with free access to technology and design education without fees or entrance exams. Its creation reflected a commitment to modernizing education in the region and preparing young people with skills for the digital future.
Tumo reflects a vision of giving young Armenians access to modern skills and creative opportunities. Visitors notice a space where technology and art blend with local values, creating a hub where youth can develop their talents while staying connected to their community.
The center is located in Yerevan and is easily accessible by public transport or car. It operates on weekdays except weekends and holidays, with visitors free to move between different workshops and project labs based on their interests.
The center uses a special software program called Tumo Path that shows students their learning progress and motivates them to work independently. This self-directed learning approach lets students switch programs or leave anytime if they choose, reflecting a philosophy called walk-away pedagogy.
