Charents Museum of Literature and Arts, Literary museum in Kentron District, Armenia
The Charents Museum of Literature and Arts is a cultural institution in Yerevan dedicated to Armenian writing, drama, and music. Its rooms hold manuscripts, books, photographs, posters, personal items from some 600 authors, theatrical pieces, and musical instruments spanning three centuries.
The museum was founded in 1921 and took its current name in 1967 to honor poet Yeghishe Charents. This rename made it the main repository for Armenian literary and artistic history.
The museum celebrates the legacy of poet Yeghishe Charents through its collections that reflect Armenian literary life in the 20th century. Visitors encounter personal items and manuscripts showing how central this writer was to Armenian cultural identity.
The museum sits in the city center and is easy to find. Its galleries are open for viewing and the institution hosts regular exhibitions, book presentations, and cultural events throughout the year.
The museum houses a remarkable collection of about 2500 original pieces from the Marcos Grigoryan collection, which were donated to the country in 1993. These holdings form the 'Near East' exhibition and offer rare insights into the region.
