National Park of American Samoa

The National Park of American Samoa encompasses 36 square kilometers of rainforests, coral reefs, and marine ecosystems across three South Pacific islands.

The United States Congress established this protected area in 1988, making it the most remote national park in the American system.

Traditional Samoan villages within the park continue their ancestral practices under an agreement that maintains communal land ownership with the National Park Service.

Visitors can access the Tutuila section by car from Pago Pago, while reaching the Ofu and Ta'u sections requires additional flights from the main island.

The park contains the only paleotropical rainforest in the United States national park system and serves as a habitat for the Samoan flying fox.
