Nahuelbuta National Park, Nature reserve in Purén, Chile
The national park spans 6,832 hectares across the Coastal Mountain Range, reaching elevations up to 1,500 meters above sea level.
Established in 1939, the park preserves ancient monkey puzzle trees, with certain specimens dating back approximately 2,000 years.
The name Nahuelbuta derives from Mapuche language, translating to 'big tiger' and reflecting the indigenous heritage of this mountainous region.
Visitors access the park through 30 roads and 15 trails, with the main entrance at Pehuenco featuring an information center and camping facilities.
The park contains populations of Darwin's fox, pudú deer, and carnivorous plants within its diverse ecosystem.
