Plaza de Armas de Puente Alto, Central plaza in Puente Alto, Chile.
Plaza de Armas de Puente Alto is a rectangular public square at the southern end of Avenida Concha y Toro, in the Puente Alto district on the southeastern edge of Santiago. The square is lined with trees and benches, with walking paths that cross through planted areas, and it sits directly next to the Puente Alto metro station.
The square was laid out in 1905 under Mayor Juan de Dios Malebrán, with wooden market stalls and trees planted along its edges. It was fully redesigned in 2006 as part of an urban renewal effort for the area.
The square is where people from Puente Alto come to sit, walk, and meet friends as part of everyday life in the city. On weekends, small events and informal gatherings often take place there, making it a natural center for the neighborhood.
The square sits at the last stop of Metro Line 4 from Santiago, making it easy to reach without a car. Once there, the main avenue in front of it leads straight through the center of Puente Alto, which is a good starting point for exploring the area on foot.
The square holds a monument to Manuel Rodríguez Erdoíza, a hero of Chilean independence who had ties to the Puente Alto region. His statue here shows him on horseback, which is not common in other depictions of him found around Chile.
