Palacio Ossa, Cultural center in Ñuñoa, Chile
The Palacio Ossa is a cultural center in Ñuñoa featuring a 78-seat cinema, workshop rooms, and dedicated spaces for artistic activities. The building hosts film screenings and art courses designed for people of different ages and interests.
Built in 1860 by architect Manuel Aldunate for businessman Gregorio Ossa as a family rest home, the palace was bought in 1910 by engineer and politician José Pedro Alessandri. In 1952 the land passed to the Municipality of Ñuñoa, which in 1953 turned it into the Casa de la Cultura. It was declared a National Historic Monument in 1973, and after the 2010 earthquake a full rehabilitation was funded in 2020.
The building has housed Ñuñoa's municipal Casa de la Cultura since 1953, when the municipality converted the former Palacio Ossa into a community arts venue. Its name recalls the Ossa family, who commissioned the 1860 palace as a country retreat. The surrounding park, with its Val d'Osne fountain and 11 classical sculptures, is part of the monument.
The center is located at Irarrázaval 4055 and offers free film screenings on weekends. Those interested in workshops can register by email at talleres@ccn.cl.
The center screens films specifically for children on Saturday mornings along with rotoscoping animation workshops. This creates a direct pathway for young people to learn filmmaking techniques and explore their own creativity.
