Puno Lighthouse, Maritime navigation beacon in Puno, Peru

Puno Lighthouse is an iron cylindrical tower about 9 metres tall, set on a stone base at the harbour of Puno on Lake Titicaca. Its light stands at a height of about 10 metres. It is the highest lighthouse in the world.

The lighthouse was built to improve navigation on Lake Titicaca and make trade routes safer between Puno and other settlements around the shore. Its construction marked a turning point in how people managed travel across the lake's waters.

The lighthouse holds meaning for local fishermen as a symbol of safety on the water, woven into their daily connection with Lake Titicaca. It serves as a reference point in the landscape and is recognized by the community as a marker of the shoreline.

The lighthouse stands on a stone base at the harbour of Puno, on the northwestern shore of Lake Titicaca, so it can be reached on foot from the town centre. The iron tower is about 9 m tall, with the light at roughly 10 m above the water.

At about 3,810 metres above sea level, the Faro de Puno is the highest lighthouse in the world. Lake Titicaca holds 19 known beacons, eight on the Peruvian side and eleven on the Bolivian side, and this is the best known of them.
