San Juan de Letran, Juli

San Juan de Letran Church presents a carved stone facade with detailed ornamentation and multiple wooden altarpieces adorned with gold leaf decorations throughout its interior.

The church construction began in 1570 under Dominican direction and later transferred to Jesuit administration during the Spanish colonial period in the Viceroyalty of Peru.

The interior paintings belong to the Cuzco School art movement, featuring religious scenes that combine European and indigenous artistic elements in their composition and style.

Located two blocks north of Plaza de Armas at Jr. Juli 325, the church opens its doors to visitors interested in exploring colonial religious architecture.

The church contains several art pieces created by Bernardo Bitti, an Italian Jesuit painter who influenced religious art development in colonial Peru during the 16th century.
