Nuestra Señora de la Asunción is a Baroque church with carved wooden doors and a large collection of religious paintings throughout its interior. The building has a Latin cross floor plan and defines the center of the village.
The Dominican friars ordered the church built between 1568 and 1576, and the Jesuits completed it in 1602. Its Renaissance-style tower dates from this colonial campaign of Catholic construction in the southern Andes.
