Hacienda Huando, Agricultural estate in Huaral Province, Peru.
Hacienda Huando is a large agricultural estate in the fertile Huaral Valley with citrus groves, avocado, and pecan plantations. The property continues to produce fruits on a reduced scale while maintaining its historic structures.
The estate was founded in 1820 and gained major importance in the 1950s when brothers introduced seedless oranges for export. This fruit became a significant product that defined the property for decades.
The main residence displays colonial architecture with a chapel dedicated to the Virgin Mary, marked by marble lions at the entrance, while French-Italian tiles decorate the interior spaces.
The estate sits about 4 kilometers east of Huaral city and is accessible by private vehicle. Visitors should plan ahead since this is an active working farm and not organized like a public monument.
The place is known for developing the Huando orange variety, a special type distinguished by its large size and seedless quality. This fruit variety emerged through cultivation techniques with the Washington Navel orange.
