Arwaturo

Arwaturo is an archaeological site containing ruins of residential buildings and storage structures spread across several kilometers. The remains show different levels with circular formations and reinforced walls.

The Wanka culture settled here between 1200 and 1400 CE and built fortified structures at high elevation. The location was chosen strategically to protect the settlement.

The people who lived here built round houses and created storage buildings for keeping crops like potatoes and quinoa through the seasons. This way of building shows how well they managed life at high altitude.

The site is located near Huancayo in the mountain region, so you should prepare for thin air and cool temperatures. Sturdy footwear and weather protection are needed to explore the scattered ruins comfortably.

The name comes from a local language and means a place of yellowish, burned bones. This points to the ancient significance of the site.
