Tayacaja Province

The Tayacaja Province spans 3,370 square kilometers across the southern region of Peru, encompassing twenty-one districts with Pampas as its capital city.

The province gained its administrative status on June 21, 1835, following Peru's independence, transitioning from its previous role within the Huancavelica intendancy.

The population of Tayacaja Province maintains strong Quechua traditions, with over 65 percent of residents speaking Quechua as their primary language.

Public transportation connects the twenty-one districts through a network of roads, with the main administrative services concentrated in the capital city of Pampas.

The province contains the mountain peak Chawpi Urqu, which rises 4,600 meters above sea level and marks the highest point in the territorial jurisdiction.
