Parque interjurisdiccional marino costero Patagonia Austral, Marine coastal park in Florentino Ameghino Department, Argentina.
Parque Interjurisdiccional Marino Costero Patagonia Austral is a protected coastal area along the northern shore of San Jorge Gulf with bays, coves, rocky outcrops, and sandy beaches. The waters contain islands with coral reefs and varied submarine landscapes that support diverse marine life.
This park was created in 2009 through national legislation and marked an important shift in Argentina. It became the first area where national and provincial authorities jointly managed marine conservation together.
The towns of Bahía Bustamante and Camarones nearby have built their way of life around fishing and the sea for generations. You can see how the coast shapes the rhythm of daily work in these communities and their connection to maritime traditions.
The park can be reached from the town of Camarones by following Urquiza Street to the waterfront road. Information offices at the site operate during business hours and can help orient you with the area.
Beneath the surface, dense forests of cayiyuyo algae create underwater meadows that shelter marine creatures. These submarine gardens are home to nearly a hundred different animal species, with many being rare or endangered.
