Chihuahua Beach

Chihuahua Beach is a sandy shore along the Rio de la Plata coast, positioned between the resort areas of Punta Ballena and Ocean Park. The water here is clear and the beach offers an open coastline with views across the estuary.

The area shifted from a sparsely inhabited zone in the 1970s to a small resort community with homes and facilities. This transformation occurred mainly between the 1980s and 2010s, shaping what exists there today.

This beach serves as Uruguay's main naturist destination, where visitors practice clothing-optional recreation according to informal community standards. The social norms here have developed around respect and acceptance among those who choose this lifestyle.

The beach is easily accessible from nearby residential areas and connects to a broader coastal ecosystem with lagoons and streams. Visitors should be aware of tidal conditions, as they affect water quality and safety.

The place was completely uninhabited in the 1980s and only gradually developed into a permanent settlement with established structures. This rapid shift from empty coastal land to an organized community happened unusually fast for the region.
