Faro Cabo Santa María, Lighthouse and scenic viewpoint in La Paloma, Uruguay

Faro Cabo Santa María is a lighthouse on the Atlantic cape of the same name in La Paloma, Rocha. Its 30-metre cylindrical masonry tower rises above the keeper's house and is topped by a dome with red and white radial stripes. The light reaches 20.5 nautical miles and serves the fishing port below.

The lighthouse was built and first lit on 1 September 1874 on the Cabo de Santa María, on the Atlantic coast at La Paloma, Rocha. Its light has a range of 20.5 nautical miles and flashes once every sixty seconds.

The lighthouse has guided the fishing port of La Paloma since 1874, when it was lit on 1 September. Its red-and-white striped dome is the town's best-known landmark, and residents over eight years old may climb to the top to photograph the town and the Atlantic.

Access to the top of the tower is allowed for people over 8 years old, and from there you can look out over La Paloma and take photos. The lighthouse serves the fishing port below, so expect working harbour activity nearby.
