Paleontological Site Arroio Cancela

The Paleontological Site Arroio Cancela is a fossil excavation area with distinctive red sediments carved by a stream, containing remains from the Mesozoic era. The terrain spans several hectares and displays exposed layers where bones and other petrified remains can be observed.

Scientists discovered a juvenile dinosaur in 1974 with well-preserved trunk bones in the red layers. The site gained recognition as an important research location for studying prehistoric life.

This location contributes to Brazilian paleontological research as part of the extensive network of fossil sites in the Santa Maria region.
