Basilica Shrine of Our Lady Mediatrix of All Graces

The Basilica Shrine of Our Lady Mediatrix of All Graces is a large stone and concrete building with tall walls and multiple entrances that occupies a significant footprint in the city. Inside, you find numerous painted glass windows showing religious scenes, decorated altars, and separate rooms designed for private prayer.

The foundation stone was blessed in 1935 by Bishop Antonio Reis, marking the start of construction on this site. The building was completed over several decades and gradually became an important religious destination.

The basilica serves as a spiritual hub where visitors light candles in private chapels and spend time in personal prayer before religious images. The place has shaped the city's religious life for more than 80 years.

The site is accessible during daytime and evening hours, and visitors should wear modest clothing with shoulders and knees covered. There is designated parking on the grounds and straightforward pathways for moving through the various chapels.

This basilica is the only church worldwide dedicated to this particular Mary figure and has a special theological focus. The site also has a strong connection to local communities that make the pilgrimage there on foot year after year.
