Parque provincial Moconá, Natural reserve in San Pedro Department, Argentina.
Moconá Provincial Park is a nature reserve spanning about 1,000 hectares along the Uruguay River, set within the Misiones rainforest. The park's main feature is a series of waterfalls running parallel to the river for roughly 3 kilometers.
The park was officially established in 1988 and traces its origins to a 1967 decree that created an initial protected area. The original reserve was built on land donated by local landowners.
The name Moconá comes from the Guarani language, meaning "that which swallows everything," reflecting how indigenous peoples understood the power of moving water. This linguistic heritage connects visitors to the region's deeper roots.
Visitors can reach the park by Provincial Route 21 from San Pedro or Route 2 from El Soberbio. The park is open daily throughout the day, but arriving early in the morning offers the best light and fewer crowds for exploring.
The waterfalls here run parallel to the river rather than flowing straight down, a result of a geological fault in the riverbed. This unusual arrangement creates drops of varying heights along the riverbank.
