Parque provincial de la Araucaria, Nature reserve in San Pedro, Misiones Province, Argentina.
Parque Provincial de la Araucaria is a nature reserve in Misiones Province that protects subtropical forests with native Parana pine trees and dense plant life. The 92-hectare area sits within the Atlantic Forest ecosystem and shows the layers of vegetation that grow naturally in this region.
The provincial government created this protected area in 1989 to safeguard remaining Parana pine trees from destruction. The park was established because these forest types were disappearing from the region and needed legal protection.
The reserve functions as an environmental education center where visitors learn about conservation practices and native species of the Misiones Province.
The park has marked walking trails that wind through different forest areas for wildlife watching and plant observation. Staff members can guide visitors and help identify the species commonly found throughout the reserve.
The reserve supports nearly 200 bird species in a compact area, including toucans and parrots that nest in the Parana pine canopy. This remarkable density of birds makes it a destination for birdwatchers and nature observers.
