Lagoa Misteriosa

Lagoa Misteriosa is a submerged limestone cave lake reaching about 220 meters deep with clear water allowing visibility throughout its depths. The cave sits beneath the surface and displays typical features of a karst landscape, with walls of dissolved stone.

This submerged lake formed as underground water flows dissolved limestone layers over time, creating a vast water-filled cave. A notable exploration took place in 1998 when an experienced diver reached the depth limit of the time.

The name Lagoa Misteriosa reflects how locals perceive this lake, since its water level remains constant regardless of weather. Visitors today notice how this trait shapes the place and draws people curious about the secret behind its unchanging waters.
