Governorate of Mato Grosso do Sul, historic building and seat of the Government of the State of Mato Grosso de Sul in Brazil
The Governorate of Mato Grosso do Sul is the government office building and seat of state administration in Campo Grande, located in the Parque dos Poderes complex. The structure was completed in 1983 and houses the governor's office along with key state secretariats across two functional floors.
Construction began in 1981 and was completed two years later after Governor Pedro Pedrossian rejected plans for a residential palace in favor of an office building. Architect Élvio Garabini designed the structure as part of the state's administrative growth following the creation of Mato Grosso do Sul as an independent state in 1979.
The building is open on weekdays from early morning until late afternoon and welcomes visitors interested in learning about state administration. Secretariats typically operate from 7:30 in the morning until 4:30 in the afternoon with a midday break, and can be reached by phone at (67) 3318-1099.
The building was designed purely as an office structure rather than as a residence, meaning the governor lives in a separate house nearby. This decision reflected a practical separation between home and workplace that was unconventional for Brazilian government buildings of that era.
