The Baronesa de Arary is a large residential building on Avenida Paulista organized into four separate blocks, each with its own character. The structure rises across 25 floors and was designed as a cohesive complex with multiple dwelling configurations.
Construction took place between 1954 and the early 1960s under architect Simeon Fichel's design. The building replaced a 1917 mansion that had belonged to Baroness Maria Dalmácia de Lacerda Guimarães.
During the 1960s, theater performers and fashion professionals made it their home, including actors Walmor Chagas, Cacilda Becker, and Elke Maravilha. This drew an artistic community that left its mark on the city's cultural scene.
The building contains various apartment types across its blocks, ranging from studio units to three-bedroom apartments. Keep in mind this is an active residential complex, so public access to interior areas may be restricted.
The complex was forced to close in 1993 due to safety concerns and structural damage that required major repairs. All residents had to relocate temporarily until 1998, when restoration work was finally completed.
