Monte Makaya, Steel roller coaster at Terra Encantada, Rio de Janeiro, Brazil

Monte Makaya was a steel roller coaster built by Intamin at Terra Encantada in Rio de Janeiro, standing in the Terra Africana section near the park's northwest corner. Its 121-foot lift hill led into a vertical loop, a cobra roll, two corkscrews, a triple heartline roll, a downward helix and a short banked hill, for eight inversions on an 800-metre track reaching 80 km/h.

The roller coaster opened on January 16, 1998, at Terra Encantada, marking a milestone as one of the few rides with eight inversions at that time. This achievement placed it among the most advanced attractions of its era.

Monte Makaya stood in the Terra Africana section at the rear of Terra Encantada, in the park's northwest corner. Its name refers to a mountain, and the ride was Intamin's first coaster with eight or more inversions, a model later copied in Guatemala and China. After the park closed, the track was trucked to Pernambuco for a planned Mirabilandia.

Monte Makaya stood in the Terra Africana section at the rear of Terra Encantada, in the park's northwest corner. Riders had to be at least 1.30 m tall, and the train carried 1,500 people per hour at up to 80 km/h. The circuit ran 800 m and lasted 1 min 45 s.

Monte Makaya was Intamin's first coaster with eight or more inversions, and its layout was reused for clones such as Avalancha at Xetulul in Guatemala and Flight of the Phoenix in China. After Terra Encantada closed, its tracks were trucked to Pernambuco for a planned Mirabilandia park; the project was cancelled in 2024 and the ride's whereabouts are now unknown.
