Terra Encantada, Amusement park in Barra da Tijuca, Rio de Janeiro, Brazil.
Terra Encantada was an amusement park in Barra da Tijuca, a western neighborhood of Rio de Janeiro in Brazil. The complex spread across several themed zones that included roller coasters, water rides, and attractions aimed at families and thrill seekers.
The park opened its gates in January 1998 and promised a modern leisure attraction for the growing Barra da Tijuca region. A fatal accident in June 2010 led to immediate closure, and the complex never reopened.
The park incorporated sections dedicated to Brazilian heritage, including Indigenous Land, African Land, and European influences throughout its themed areas.
The site remains abandoned and is no longer accessible to the public, as operations and maintenance ceased more than a decade ago. Visitors should avoid approaching the grounds, as they are neither maintained nor supervised.
The Monte Makaya roller coaster featured eight consecutive loops and held a world record for four years. This technical feat was one of the main draws of the park at the time and attracted coaster enthusiasts from different countries.
