Bosque da Barra, Nature park in Barra da Tijuca, Brazil.
Bosque da Barra is a nature park in Barra da Tijuca with lakes, wetlands, and walking trails surrounded by native plants and mangrove forests. The 53-hectare area offers different recreational spaces where you can move through diverse natural environments.
The area was originally wetlands and became a protected urban park in 1983 to preserve part of the original Jacarepaguá lowland ecosystem. This action helped keep natural habitats safe as the surrounding region continued to develop.
The environmental center inside offers exhibitions about the local wildlife and plant life that depend on these wetlands to survive. Visitors learn how the park's different zones support different species.
The park is open Tuesday through Sunday from 7 AM to 5 PM with no entrance fee required. Wear comfortable shoes and bring water, as the trails pass through open areas where shade from vegetation may be limited.
The western section supports wild caimans and capybaras living freely among the plants and water areas. These animals are easier to spot during early morning or late afternoon hours when the park is quieter.
