Bom Jardim de Minas is a municipality located in the Mantiqueira Mountains region of southern Minas Gerais at an elevation of around 1,200 meters. The area covers roughly 400 square kilometers of mountainous terrain with forests and varied vegetation.
The settlement was established in 1770 when Manoel de Oliveira Arriaga founded a farm in the region. European expansion into the area created tensions with indigenous populations that lived there.
