Rua Teresa is a shopping street in Petrópolis with hundreds of stores selling clothing, accessories, and local handcrafts at various price points. The selection ranges from affordable basics to higher-end designer pieces.

Rua Teresa appeared on Major Koeler's original 1846 plan of Petrópolis as Vila Teresa and remained the city's only access until 1928. It was originally a stretch of the Estrada da Estrela linking the Guanabara Bay port to Minas Gerais. In 1883 the Príncipe do Grão-Pará railway tracks followed its route, and the Leopoldina Railway workshop at the start of the street drew textile industries in the early 20th century.

Local makers and traders blend traditional textile crafts with modern fashion, selling regional handmade pieces alongside contemporary styles. The street reflects how people here connect their heritage to everyday shopping.

Rua Teresa runs from the Leopoldina railway workshops area toward the historic centre; it was Petrópolis's only access route until 1928, so it follows the old Estrada da Estrela alignment. The street is long and lined with over 1,200 shops, so plan which stretches to walk. The 2022 flood hit the area hard; some establishments may still be recovering.

Each January brings seasonal sales with discounts reaching up to 70 percent, drawing shoppers from across the region. This sales period transforms the street into a particularly busy shopping destination for several weeks.
