International Airport of Vitória - Eurico de Aguiar Salles, airport in Brazil
The airport at Vitória, also called Eurico de Aguiar Salles, is a commercial terminal in Espírito Santo, about 6 miles (10 kilometers) from the city center. The facility has two asphalt runways, a modern terminal building covering about 320,000 square feet (30,000 square meters), check-in areas, waiting areas, restaurants, shops, and car rental desks.
The airport was officially opened in 1946 after French engineers built a concrete runway during World War Two. From 1975 it was managed by Infraero, and underwent major modernization in the 2000s, including a new terminal and second runway. Since 2019 it has been operated by a Swiss company.
The airport is named in honor of a key figure from the state's past. Today visitors notice a functional modern terminal with clear signage and services that support daily operations.
The terminal has clear signage and elevators for people with mobility issues, plus special vehicles for assistance. Several bus lines connect the airport to the city, and taxis, rental cars, and ride-sharing services are available. Parking spaces are provided for those traveling by car.
The area was once home to a seaplane port in Santo Antônio that carried passengers and cargo from 1939 until the end of World War Two. The move to this location marked the shift from water-based aviation to modern runway-based operations.
