Built in 1790 after Tupac Katari's siege of La Paz, the church underwent reconstruction during President Narciso Campero's administration following an indigenous rebellion in 1857.
The location of San Pedro Church marked a social division in La Paz, with Spanish families residing north of Choqueyapu River while indigenous populations lived in the southern area.
The religious building stands at the intersection of Colombia Street and 20 de Octubre Avenue, adjacent to Plaza Sucre in the San Pedro neighborhood.
The church holds the distinction of being the second oldest parish in La Paz, established by Spanish friar Francisco de la Cruz Alcocer in 1549 to instruct indigenous people.
