Cotapata National Park and Integrated Management Natural Area

The protected area spans 600 square kilometers across varying altitudes, from montane rainforests to cloud forests with numerous hiking paths throughout the terrain.

The Bolivian government established Cotapata National Park in 1993 through Decree DS Nº23,547 to preserve the natural ecosystems of the Yungas region.

Local Aymara communities maintain their traditional agricultural methods within designated zones of the park, contributing to sustainable land management practices.

Daily buses connect La Paz to the park entrance, with the journey taking approximately two hours through mountain roads in the northwestern region.

The reserve contains 820 documented plant species and 204 animal species, including the spectacled bear and numerous threatened bird populations.
