Ríos Blanco y Negro Wildlife Reserve

The reserve spans 1,400,000 hectares across the municipalities of Concepción, Ascención de Guarayos, and Urubichá in northern Santa Cruz Department.

The Bolivian government established Ríos Blanco y Negro Wildlife Reserve in August 1990 through Ministerial Resolution 139/90 to maintain biological diversity.

The Guarayo and Chiquitano communities practice traditional activities including berry picking, hunting, fishing, and farming within designated areas of the reserve.

The San Pablo and Blanco Rivers create seasonal flooding patterns that form Várzea forest zones, regulating water levels throughout the protected area.

The reserve connects two distinct ecosystems: the Chiquitano dry forests and the Madeira-Tapajós moist forests of the Amazon, creating diverse environmental conditions.
