Estádio José Fragelli

Estádio José Fragelli was a football stadium in Cuiabá with a natural grass pitch and capacity for around 55,000 spectators in a concrete structure. The venue hosted major matches and served the region as an important sports facility for the city.

The stadium opened in 1976 following construction that began in 1973 under Governor José Fragelli's administration. Decades later, structural safety concerns forced its closure in 2009 and eventual demolition to make way for a new arena.

Five matches of the Brazilian national football team took place at this venue between 1981 and 2002, including games against Switzerland and Ecuador.

The site no longer exists as it was demolished after closure for safety reasons in 2009. Visitors interested in the venue's history can find information about the location in the city where a modern sports complex now stands.

The facility's construction required the sale of 2 million hectares of land to the Federal Senate to secure the necessary funding of Cr$ 1,200,000.
