Great Fish River Nature Reserve, Protected area in Eastern Cape, South Africa.
The Great Fish River Nature Reserve spans 45,000 hectares of land, containing dense subtropical thickets, grassy plains, and sharp river valleys.
Three separate nature reserves merged in 1994 to form this conservation zone: Andries Vosloo Kudu Reserve, Double Drift Nature Reserve, and Sam Knott Nature Reserve.
The reserve protects numerous locations where indigenous communities lived near the Great Fish River, leaving traces of their settlements across generations.
Multiple wooden chalets and camping facilities allow visitors to stay within the reserve while participating in guided game drives and hiking activities.
The elevation changes from 95 to 561 meters above sea level create distinct habitats that support over 200 bird species and large populations of black rhinoceros.
