Wonder Cave, Natural limestone cave in Kromdraai, South Africa.
The cave chamber extends over 46,000 square meters with dimensions of 125 by 154 meters, containing formations that reach heights of 15 meters.
Italian miners discovered the cave in 1898 during limestone extraction for cement production, and operations ceased in 1902 during the Second Boer War.
The cave forms part of the Sterkfontein UNESCO World Heritage Site, which contains substantial evidence of human evolutionary history in South Africa.
Visitors reach the cave floor through an 87-step staircase descending 22 meters, followed by an elevator that goes down an additional 18 meters.
Among the 14 stalactite and stalagmite formations within the cave chamber, 85 percent continue to grow through active mineral deposition.
