North-West District

The North-West District spans 129,930 square kilometers of varied terrain, including wetlands, grasslands, and contains the capital city of Maun.

The district became part of the Bechuanaland Protectorate in 1890 under British administration, following the settlement of Tswana people in the Ngamiland region.

The district population includes the Basarwa people, who maintain traditional hunting and gathering practices passed down through generations in this region.

Maun serves as the primary transportation hub with an international airport, providing access to the Okavango Delta and surrounding wildlife reserves.

The district contains multiple protected areas and supports large populations of African elephants that migrate through its natural corridors throughout the year.
