Khaudom National Park, Nature reserve in Kalahari Desert, Namibia.
Khaudom National Park is a protected nature reserve in Namibia's Kalahari region that spans a large expanse of semi-arid terrain. Three seasonal riverbeds—Nhoma, Cwiba, and Khaudum—cut through the landscape and become the focus of animal life during dry seasons.
The park was established in 1989 as a protected area to preserve wildlife populations in the region. Its creation followed Namibia's independence and reflected efforts to safeguard important natural spaces.
The territory maintains 320 bird species alongside African bush elephants, Angolan giraffes, and multiple antelope breeds in their natural environment.
The best time to visit is during the dry season from June through October, when wildlife concentrates around water sources. Visitors should prepare for large temperature swings between day and night and bring sufficient water and sun protection.
During the rainy season from December to March, the dry riverbeds transform into green corridors lined with dense acacia forests. This seasonal change draws wildlife into concentrated areas where animals normally disperse across the vast terrain.
