Ga-Rankuwa is a township located about 37 kilometers northwest of Pretoria in hilly terrain. The area contains residential neighborhoods alongside the Dr. George Mukhari Academic Hospital, which serves as both a teaching facility and healthcare provider.
The township emerged in the 1960s when Black residents were forcibly moved from Lady Selborne under apartheid policies. This relocation was one of many demographic changes imposed during that period.
