Hartbeespoort Aerial Cableway

The Hartbeespoort Aerial Cableway crosses the Magaliesberg Mountains over a distance of 754 meters, rising to approximately 1230 meters above sea level with Swiss-engineered cable cars. At the mountain station, multiple activity areas and facilities are available for visitors.

The cableway opened in 1973 and transformed how people access the Magaliesberg Mountains while opening new viewpoints over the Hartbeespoort Dam region. Since its establishment, it has remained a key transportation link and visitor destination in the area.

The cable cars reach the mountaintop where visitors find restaurants serving local South African food made with ingredients from nearby farming communities.

The ascent takes about 10 minutes and offers views of the surroundings and dam area during the ride. Visitors should wear suitable shoes since various paths lead to activity areas at the top.

The mountaintop station features a paragliding launch point where experienced pilots can descend into the valley using a 354-meter elevation drop. This launch spot attracts paragliding enthusiasts from across the region.
