Hartbeespoort Dam Snake and Animal Park

Hartbeespoort Dam Snake and Animal Park is a zoo in the Madibeng area that specializes in reptiles such as snakes, crocodiles, and turtles, while also housing lions, tigers, chimpanzees, and African hunting dogs. The facility is organized into different enclosures and pools designed so visitors can observe the animals up close.

The facility was founded more than 50 years ago and was one of the first places in the region to focus specifically on keeping and studying reptiles. This early specialization gave the park a long tradition in reptile care.

School groups come here to learn about South African animals through guided tours and live demonstrations that show how different species behave and interact.

The park is open daily and visitors should wear comfortable clothing and bring sun protection since many enclosures are outdoors. Good pathways make it easy to walk through the different areas, and it is wise to drink plenty of water during your visit.

On weekends and during school holidays, regular performances featuring snakes and seals take place where visitors can watch these animals in action. These shows give insight into how skilled and powerful these creatures are in their natural ways.
