Muchinga Province, Administrative province in northeastern Zambia
Muchinga Province is an administrative division in northeastern Zambia that covers mountainous and plateau terrain. It extends across eight districts with borders shared with Tanzania and Malawi.
The province was created in 2011 as part of an administrative reorganization. Subsequent changes expanded the original five districts to eight.
Bemba is the primary language spoken in daily interactions, shaping how people communicate and connect with one another. Community and family ties define the social rhythm, with traditional gatherings remaining central to local life.
The TAZARA Railway and Tanzam Highway connect the districts and link to neighboring countries. Travel conditions can be challenging during rainy seasons when roads become less accessible.
The region contains three major national parks that protect diverse wildlife habitats. These conservation areas form one of the most important natural spaces in the wider region.
