CCM Kirumba Stadium, Multi-purpose stadium in Mwanza, Tanzania.
CCM Kirumba Stadium is a multi-purpose stadium in Mwanza, Tanzania, with a grass playing field, changing rooms, and a VIP section. It is the largest sporting venue in the Lake Victoria region.
The stadium opened in 1980 as the second largest in Tanzania, after the National Stadium in Dar es Salaam. Over the decades it became the main venue for major football and sporting events in the northwest of the country.
The stadium is home to several football clubs from Mwanza, and on match days it draws crowds of supporters who fill the stands with noise and color. It is one of the few places in the city where people from different neighborhoods regularly come together around a shared event.
The stadium is close to Rock City Mall, so visitors can easily find food and shops nearby before or after an event. Arriving early on match days is a good idea, as the roads around the venue can get very busy.
The stadium is operated by the Chama Cha Mapinduzi party, which has governed Tanzania since independence, making it one of the few sporting venues in the world directly owned by a political party. This unusual ownership shapes how the venue is managed and used.
