Salima District, Administrative district in Central Region, Malawi.

Salima District extends over 2,196 square kilometers along the western shore of Lake Malawi, bordered by Nkhotakota, Ntchisi, Dowa, Lilongwe and Dedza districts.

The district formation occurred during Malawi's administrative restructuring, establishing it as one of 28 districts to improve local governance and regional development initiatives.

The population of 478,346 residents includes 72.9 percent Chewa people and 19 percent Yao people, maintaining their traditional practices and agricultural heritage.

Five constituencies represent Salima District in the National Assembly: Central, North, South, South East, and North West, each managing local affairs and development programs.

Senga Bay within the district functions as a primary weekend destination for Lilongwe residents and hosts the annual Lake of Stars cultural festival.
