Mount Kibo, Stratovolcano summit in Kilimanjaro National Park, Tanzania
Mount Kibo rises 5,895 meters above sea level, featuring a volcanic cone shape with smooth outlines and a connected saddle to the adjacent Mawenzi peak.
Hans Meyer and Ludwig Purtscheller completed the first recorded European ascent of Mount Kibo on October 6, 1889, marking a milestone in African mountaineering.
The Chagga people name this peak Kipoo, meaning spotted, reflecting their long-standing connection to the mountain and its surrounding landscapes.
Seven established routes lead climbers to Uhuru Peak on Kibo, with proper acclimatization required due to significant elevation changes and temperature variations.
The summit contains three main glaciers - Credner, Furtwängler, and Rebmann - which have decreased by 80 percent throughout the twentieth century.
