Mount Leisler, Mountain summit in Kintore Range, Northern Territory, Australia.
Mount Leisler is a 897 meter peak in the Kintore Range of Northern Territory, marking the highest point of this range. It stands in a remote part of the Gibson Desert, reached via the Sandy Blight Junction Road that extends into this isolated territory.
William Tietkels discovered and named the peak in May 1889 during the Central Australian Exploring Expedition. He marked a tree at its base to record this discovery in the remote landscape.
The peak is named after Louis Leisler, a Glasgow-based sponsor who funded exploration efforts in this remote region. The name reflects how financial support made these journeys into the interior possible.
The peak sits in extremely remote terrain and is only accessible by special roads such as the Sandy Blight Junction Road. Visitors should prepare for harsh desert conditions and very limited facilities in the surrounding area.
The peak was marked with a carving at its base by Tietkels to document his expedition findings. This early surveying method remains part of the exploration history of this remote landscape.
