Prasasti Muara Cianten, Ancient stone inscription in Cibungbulang, Indonesia
The Prasasti Muara Cianten inscription stands on the banks of the Cisadane River, featuring intricate carvings of curled patterns derived from tuber designs.
Discovered in 1864 by N.W. Hoepermans, this stone inscription dates back to the Tarumanagara Kingdom period between the 5th and 7th centuries.
The Sanskrit inscriptions on the stone demonstrate the influence of Indian culture and early writing systems in ancient Indonesian civilization.
Visitors can reach the archaeological site through a series of steps leading to the riverbank in the Cibungbulang district of Bogor.
The stone monument measures 2.70 x 1.40 x 140 meters and contains rare examples of early Indonesian writing systems carved into natural rock.
