Lippo Karawaci, Planned township in Greater Jakarta, Indonesia
Lippo Karawaci is a planned township in Tangerang with residential zones, office buildings, schools, hospitals, shopping centers, and golf courses spread across about 132 hectares. The community is organized by more than 120 kilometers of internal roads that connect all the different zones and facilities.
Development started in 1993 on former swampland, transforming the area into a modern integrated community. The project became a pioneering example of large-scale planned urban development in the Greater Jakarta region.
Korean residents form a significant part of the community and shape the local business and food scene. Their presence has created distinct neighborhood pockets with Korean shops, restaurants, and cultural centers that visitors can explore.
The community connects to Jakarta through the Jakarta-Tangerang highway with regular shuttle services available. An upcoming MRT line will improve connectivity and make travel to and from the area easier for visitors.
The Millennium Village section is being developed as a smart city project with modern infrastructure and technology. This newer area provides a glimpse into how contemporary planned communities are designed with advanced systems and sustainable features.
