Gambir

Gambir is an administrative district in Central Jakarta featuring a mix of residential zones and government buildings near the Ciliwung River. The area spans six administrative villages and brings together different functions within the city center.

In the 18th century, a landowner named Anthony Paviljoen began development by renting parcels to Chinese settlers for agriculture. This early settlement shaped the district's structure and its connections to the surrounding city.

The National Museum here displays extensive collections of artifacts, textiles, and ancient relics that represent the nation's heritage. Visitors can walk through the galleries and explore objects that tell stories from different regions and time periods.

Gambir railway station functions as a major transportation hub with regular train services connecting to other regions. The area is easily walkable and offers various ways to get around within the district.

Merdeka Square contains the National Monument, which rises 132 meters above ground and commemorates Indonesia's independence struggle. The monument serves as a central gathering point and offers visitors insight into the meaning of this symbolic location.
