Kampung Melayu, Transit hub in East Jakarta, Indonesia
Kampung Melayu is a Transjakarta bus terminal in the Jatinegara district of East Jakarta, built under the K.H. Abdullah Syafei overpass. It functions as one of the main transfer hubs on the eastern side of the city, where several bus corridors converge.
The terminal opened in January 2007 when Transjakarta corridors 5 and 7 began service as part of Jakarta's expanding rapid bus network. Corridor 11 was added later, reinforcing the station's role as a key eastern hub.
The name Kampung Melayu means "Malay Village" in Indonesian, recalling a time when this area was home to a Malay community long before the city grew around it. Today, passengers from many different parts of Jakarta pass through here daily, making it a natural meeting point in the eastern part of the city.
The station is easy to navigate on foot, and transfers between corridors can be done quickly without leaving the main platform area. It tends to get very busy during morning and evening rush hours, so arriving outside those times makes the experience more comfortable.
The platforms sit entirely beneath an existing overpass, which acts as a natural roof and keeps passengers sheltered from rain without any additional structure above them. The 2023 renovation added glass panels along the sides that bring daylight into what could otherwise feel like a dark underpass.
