Jakarta International e-Prix Circuit, race track in Jakarta, Indonesia
The Jakarta International e-Prix Circuit is a 2.4 kilometer race track featuring 18 turns, built specifically for Formula E racing near Ancol Beach. The layout combines long straights with technical corner sections that demand both speed and precise steering through flowing turns.
Plans for the racing event began in 2019, and construction started in early 2022, with completion just one week before the first race in June 2022. The project moved quickly after several proposed locations near landmarks were rejected in favor of the Ancol area.
The circuit's design takes inspiration from Kuda Lumping, a traditional Javanese dance performed with colorful woven bamboo horse figures. Visitors can see this cultural connection reflected in the flowing curves and overall shape of the track, which mirrors the dynamic movements of this local art form.
The location is best reached by public transport, with free shuttle services available from nearby areas for visitors. The tropical climate is warm and humid with frequent rain, so bring appropriate clothing and be prepared for changing weather conditions.
The circuit was constructed with remarkable speed, built from the ground up in less than six months, making it an example of rapid infrastructure development. Drivers like Mitch Evans, who won the first race, praised the track's grip and technical demands that reward skilled driving.
